A range of finescale OO Gauge Bridges and Tunnels for the discerning model maker

A number of current and future projects for The Bradnor Branchline include, a medieval river bridge based on the one below, a new road under bridge in stone, a new double tunnel mouth, similar in design to our existing single tunnel mouth and a viaduct based on the famous Knucklas Viaduct in Powys.
All of the above and a number of our existing models will be supplied as kits and made from stronger (and lighter) polyurethane resin. Check back here in 2010 for all the latest updates and pictures, or if you wish to receive e-mail notification of all our latest products enter your details at the bottom of this page.

The Lugg Bridge Presteigne

The Lugg Bridge Presteigne

My latest project is a 'OO' Gauge model river bridge, based on The River Lugg bridge, Presteigne.
This will be my first resin kit and will consist of about ten pieces. It will be supplied with a coat of grey primer and you will be able to glue it using any contact adhesive, such as 'Evostick' or an epoxy glue such as 'Araldite'.
If you do a little DIY or carpentry, you may have used polyurethane adhesives such as 'Joiners Mate, which are very useful, if a little messy. Parts can then be held in place with tape whilst the glue dries.

Painting is just a matter of using a mix of enamels. The base colours are applied and left to dry for a day or so, then a 'mortar' mix is made using emulsion paint. A pale cream colour works better than pure white and can be subdued with other colours later. Apply some water (with a spot of washing up liquid) over the primed surface. Dab on some spots of cream emulsion and watch it spread out into the joints. repeat this procedure until the entire model is covered and allow a day or so for the paint to dry, (a patchy result is desired).
Next apply enamels again. This time dry brush greens, greys and browns to complete the affect.

This is a very tall road under bridge near Knighton-on-Teme (Tenbury Wells). Not currently in production as a model, but it would certainly make a worthy addition to the range.
I am currently planning to make an embossed brick paper (initially for my own use, later it may go on sale), which I intend to use to make brick structures such as this one. At the moment I am sculpting all of my masonry by hand (which is very time consuming) before taking silicone moulds, prior to casting.

Certainly worth a mention here is Knucklas Viaduct.
These three shots just don't do it justice. It has (I think) thirteen arches (please feel free to correct me if that is wrong) and the village of Knucklas in Powys nestles beneath it. If you get a chance to see it, I would recommend a visit. Just head for Knighton (not to be confused with Knighton-on-Teme) and ask a friendly local how to get there
My model of Knucklas Viaduct is underway. However, since starting this project I have decided to make this model available in kit form, so a re-think of the design is now called for. (Watch this space).

A Disused road over bridge at Stansbatch, Presteigne Powys. One of a number of prototype bridges I intend to model in the near future.

A cattle-creep (not the chap on top) also at Stansbatch, Presteigne Powys. I have had a few requests for a cattle creep and this is a particularly nice one. It's on the Presteigne to Kington line. (Private land unfortunately). The good thing about it is that it looks like the same design as my existing tunnels, so would fit right in.

Not the best photo, but it was taken in bad light and cleaned up on the computer. It is in fact a viaduct and helps to carry a very tall embankment on the Presteigne to Kington line, (also on private land). The arches are about 12 feet wide, and would make an unusual model, that could be adapted to fit into a number of locations. The embankment it carries is about 60 feet tall and makes a very eerie scene when you are standing on the line looking down.
